Spring fever (or maybe just seasonal allergies) hitting you hard? Same! While everyone else is fighting for space in the usual hotspots, we’ve rounded up some epic international destinations that offer the perfect spring trifecta: minimal crowds, ideal weather, and prices that won't break the bank.
Dalmatian Coast, Croatia (but not Dubrovnik)

Skip overcrowded Dubrovnik and head to Split, Hvar, or one of the lesser-known islands like Vis. Spring brings temperatures in the high 60s—perfect for hiking and exploring ancient ruins without the summer sweat. The Adriatic isn't quite warm enough for swimming in April, but that means prices are still in the sweet spot.
Budget win: Apartment rentals start around €40/night, and you can island-hop via local ferries for under €10 per journey.
Chiang Mai, Thailand

April might be the tail-end of Thailand's high season, but Chiang Mai offers a perfect sweet spot. The burning season is wrapping up, crowds are thinning, and the Songkran water festival (Thai New Year) brings incredible energy to the city. Base yourself here for temple-hopping, incredible street food, and day trips to ethical elephant sanctuaries.
Budget win: Luxury here is actually affordable—boutique hotels with pools start around $40/night, and you can feast like royalty for under $10 a day.
Slovenia

Ljubljana and Lake Bled in spring? Pure magic. Slovenia remains one of Europe's best-kept secrets, with Alpine landscapes, emerald rivers, and charming architecture that rivals its more famous neighbors. Spring brings mild temperatures, flowering meadows, and virtually no crowds (except during Easter).
Budget win: Car rentals are affordable (around €30/day), and you can cover most of this small country in a week, staying at lovely guesthouses for €50-80/night.
Valparaíso, Chile

While the Northern Hemisphere is embracing spring, Chile is easing into autumn—arguably the best time to visit. Valparaíso's colorful hillside neighborhoods, street art, and bohemian vibe make it the perfect alternative to overcrowded Santiago. Temperatures hover around 70°F, and you'll find yourself among locals rather than tourists.
Budget win: While Chile isn't necessarily the most affordable South American destination, Valparaíso offers excellent value. Meals average around $10-15 and boutique guesthouses start at $50/night.
Taipei, Taiwan

Cherry blossoms without the Kyoto crowds? Yes, please! Taipei in spring offers comfortable temperatures (60-75°F), fewer tourists, and a fantastic food scene. Bounce between night markets, mountain hikes, and design-forward coffee shops—all while paying a fraction of what you would in Japan.
Budget win: Excellent street food for $2-5 per meal and mid-range accommodations starting around $60/night.
The Azores, Portugal

This Portuguese archipelago in the middle of the Atlantic feels like Hawaii minus the crowds (and the hefty price tag.) Spring brings lush green landscapes, temperatures in the 60s, and empty hiking trails that lead to hot springs and volcanic lakes. Whale watching season kicks off in April, too.
Budget win: Direct flight options from both the East Coast of the US and mainland Europe are increasing, with round-trips often under $600. Once there, guesthouses run about €50-80/night.
Where will you go?
